MediaMarkt voted Brand of the Year!

This was a great honour for MediaMarkt! The well-known brand was declared Brand of the Year at the World Branding Awards in London, the ultimate awards ceremony in the realm of global brands.

At this prestigious event, which was held for the tenth time on 14 November and hosted at the State Apartments of Kensington Palace, 318 brands from 41 countries received the coveted title of ‘Brand of the Year’. Brands were nominated by over 230,000 consumers from around the world.

The three proud winners of the National Awards for Germany were MediaMarkt in the retail/tech category, Adidas (sporting goods) and Deutsche Bank (banking).

The global winners were Beijing Tong Ren Tang, CHAI LI WON, CoCo, Heinz, IKEA, LEGO®, Netflix, Neutrogena®, Schwarzkopf, Spotify and Yakult.

Nominees are judged in three different ways: brand evaluation, consumer market research, and public online voting. The consumer poll carries a weighting of 70%. In each category, there is just one winner per country.

“This is a celebration of the continuous efforts that are vital to building outstanding brands. These brands have established strong brand recall, top-of-mind awareness, and trust among their consumers,” declared Richard Rowles, Chair of the World Branding Forum.

Florian Gietl, CEO MediaMarktSaturn Germany, had this to say: “The award is a superb acknowledgement of our work at MediaMarktSaturn. It motivates each and every one of our employees to keep offering our customers the best possible shopping experience with passion and dedication.”

Winning the award as a direct result of consumers’ votes is especially commendable, he added. “Especially for the staff who are in direct contact with our customers on a daily basis – in-store sales staff, customer service personnel, home visit engineers and our service hotline team – receiving so much encouragement from our customers is incredibly inspiring.”

“I’m very proud of what the MediaMarkt brand has achieved. This award confirms that we’re one of the world’s strong brands. And this goes hand in hand with the responsibility to enhance and maintain the brand,” stated Ralf Schmitt, Head of Marketing International, who accepted the award on behalf of MediaMarktSaturn.

A strong brand has always been one of the reasons for MediaMarkt’s success. Today, the MediaMarkt brand is synonymous with consumer electronics retail, especially on its home market in Germany. This image has been steadily nurtured by a process of strong, strategic brand building. This includes MediaMarkt’s legendary advertising campaigns, which repeatedly attract attention both nationally and internationally.

The awards are presented by the World Branding Forum, a global non-profit organization dedicated to raising brand standards. The Forum organizes and sponsors various training programmes and also publishes branding news on its website with a worldwide readership of over 34.4 million.
