Smell the coffee! MediaMarkt and Saturn launch Barista Club

Ingolstadt, 24.09.2019: MediaMarktSaturn is already excellently positioned as far as coffee machines and related services are concerned. Whether fully automatic coffee machines, pod brewers or portafilter machines, the product range stocked by MediaMarkt and Saturn includes the right machine for every wish and every requirement. And for some time now, both brands have also been offering services such as the installation, maintenance and repair of fully automatic coffee machines. Now, MediaMarkt and Saturn are further expanding their coffee expertise by launching their own coffee world known as the Barista Club in their stores and online shops in Germany. At the Barista Club, the two tech retailers are also selling premium coffee from well-known brands for the first time as well as their very own Barista Club coffee bean series. Furthermore, trained baristas are on hand in many stores to proficiently advise customers. The complete rollout of the new Barista Club in Germany is set to be completed by the end of September 2019.

Coffee is the Germans’ most popular hot drink. According to the German Coffee Association, coffee consumption in 2018 was 164 litres per head. The coffee market thus harbours great potential, which MediaMarkt and Saturn plan to increasingly tap. In order to be able to offer their customers not only the right coffee machines, but also a complete world of enjoyment revolving around the hot drink, the two consumer electronics retailers have launched the Barista Club. Through the club, MediaMarkt and Saturn are now offering their customers the following premium coffee brands previously only available from online specialists and occasionally delicatessens: Bristot, Caffè Diemme, Caffé Veloce, Caffè Deorsola, Gorilla, Hausbrandt, Kimbo, Lucaffé, Mokaflor, Pellini and Schreyögg.

The Barista Club is therefore a logical step in the further development of our product range to meet our customers’ needs,” declared Florian Gietl, CEO/COO of MediaMarktSaturn Germany. “With the Barista Club, we’re now offering our customers the complete package ranging from competent advice, the sale of high-quality coffee machines and matching premium beans to maintenance and repairs.”

The importance of MediaMarktSaturn’s new Barista Club is also demonstrated by the launch of a coffee brand with the same name, initially comprising three varieties and roasted exclusively for MediaMarktSaturn by Procaffé S.p.A. To ensure customers receive professional advice, selected store employees are undergoing certified barista training. Individual varieties can of course be sampled by customers in-store. The look of the Barista Club fits seamlessly into the existing corporate design of the two retailers and is complemented by warm brown shades. MediaMarktSaturn is creating a coffee world inviting customers to linger, discover and enjoy.

MediaMarktSaturn’s Barista Club coffee range currently comprises the three varieties Enrico (intensity 5, RRP €7.99), Fabio (intensity 7, RRP €8.49) and Massimo (intensity 9, RRP €8.99), which are sold as whole beans in 500g bags. The aluminium-free internal packaging is environmentally friendly. The outer packaging consists exclusively of cardboard and is a real eye-catcher with its striking triangular shape. MediaMarktSaturn chose the traditional Italian company Procaffé S.p.A. to produce the three different blends after blind-tasting sample roasts from various well-known manufacturers. The unmistakable, sophisticated, balanced flavour of the Barista Club varieties has been especially created for the customers of MediaMarkt and Saturn, and offers the perfect entry into the premium class. One particular advantage is that they’re excellently suited for use in different types of machines.

Procaffé is the perfect partner. It exclusively processes beans of the highest quality class (Grade 1), has Organic/Bio and Rainforest Alliance certification, and a hundred years’ experience of coffee roasting. Moreover, the Procaffé quality process is ISO 9001 certified. It goes without saying that MediaMarktSaturn staff regularly visit Procaffé in Italy to monitor production quality. In addition, since MediaMarktSaturn is a member of the RBA (Responsible Business Alliance), all manufacturers working with the company have signed the corresponding code of conduct.
