Payment now faster than ever: mobile payment at MediaMarkt and Saturn

  • Both consumer electronics retailers have been taking mobile payments for years
  • Apple Pay now also accepted at all MediaMarkt and Saturn stores in Germany

Ingolstadt, 11.12.2018: With MediaMarkt and Saturn continuing to expand their payment options, even more customers throughout Germany can now pay in all stores quickly and conveniently using their smartphone.

For more than three years, MediaMarkt and Saturn have been taking contactless payments by Mastercard and Visa as well as by NFC-enabled smartphones running a suitable app from the two credit card providers. The mobile payment apps issued by various German banks (Sparkasse, Volksbank and Raiffeisenbank) have also been accepted for some time, as has ‘girocard kontaktlos’. In June this year, the two consumer electronics retailers expanded the range of payment options accepted to include Google Pay. And now, customers can quickly and contactlessly pay for purchases at MediaMarkt and Saturn using their iPhone or Apple Watch, too. Apple’s mobile payment service has also been integrated into the new, cashierless payment system SATURN Smartpay at the Saturn store on Mönckebergstrasse in Hamburg’s old town. Since the beginning of December 2018, customers in the world’s biggest consumer electronics store have for the first time been able to use their smartphones to simply scan and pay for their purchases.

In addition to mobile payment, MediaMarkt and Saturn stores also accept cash, debit cards, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and American Express), and MediaMarkt and Saturn gift cards.
