Media-Saturn acquires majority shareholding in the customer and repair service provider RTS

Ingolstadt/Wolnzach, 13.08.2015: The Media-Saturn-Holding has signed an agreement to acquire a majority shareholding (90 percent) in the RTS Group. The company RTS, which is headquartered in the Bavarian town of Wolnzach and last year generated revenues of 136 million euros with approximately 1,200 employees, provides services for electrical goods throughout both Germany and, via partners, Europe. RTS will allow Media-Saturn to further expand the range of services it offers. This will include planning, installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of various products, ranging from household appliances to smartphones, TVs and entire smart homes. It is planned that in the future all of these services will be available not only in the stores but also at customers’ homes. In addition, the online services and the established business of RTS will be further expanded. This comprises the management of returns and repairs (incl. spare parts management) for end customers on behalf of manufacturers. The transaction is subject to the approval of the relevant antitrust authorities.

Pieter Haas, deputy CEO of Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH, stated: "Service is becoming increasingly important to Media-Saturn if we are to fulfill the performance promise made to our customers and thus ensure our ability to compete and set ourselves apart from our online-only competition. Furthermore, brand-independent services are an exciting growth market as more and more users combine products from different manufacturers, for example in applications like smart homes. These products have to be installed, explained, maintained and repaired. The integration of RTS in the Media-Saturn Group will allow us to put together a unique portfolio of services. Customers can benefit from a significantly easier handling process from one source, while our suppliers and we profit from more satisfied end customers. This service offering will first be introduced in Germany and subsequently rolled out in all the countries in which we operate.

Josef Raith, founder and managing director of RTS, said: "In the consumer electronics sector, the purchase and service of products are continuing to grow closer together. Our mission is to offer customers purchasing electrical goods and consumer electronics a positive customer experience that extends throughout the entire product lifecycle based on the services we offer. Being part of Media-Saturn Group opens up great opportunities for both our new shareholder and for RTS and its 1,200 employees."

RTS currently consists of:

Profectis: The biggest brand-independent nationwide provider of installation, maintenance and repair services for large electrical and household appliances.
Tec-Repair: Repair and platform for the repair of any brand of mobile telephone, tablet, laptop or TV both at the service workshop and at the local stores, such as the Saturn store in Ingolstadt.
Smart World Services: Services and solutions covering every aspect of the smart home (security, energy efficiency, health).

RTS was founded in 1989 by Josef Raith. The Berlin financial investor capiton AG acquired a minority interest in RTS in 2009. Raith will in the future retain a 10 percent stake in RTS and maintain close ties to the company in his role as advisor and active shareholder, thus ensuring an orderly transfer of know-how.
