Florian Gietl, General Managing Director of MediaMarktSaturn Germany, to leave at his own request / CEO Dr Karsten Wildberger to take on his duties on an interim basis
Florian Gietl, General Managing Director (GMD) of MediaMarktSaturn Germany (MMSD) and COO of MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group, has decided to leave the company at the end of September 2021 for personal reasons. Dr Karsten Wildberger, CEO of both CECONOMY AG and the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group since August, will take charge of Florian Gietl’s current responsibilities alongside his own until further notice.
“We very much regret that Florian Gietl has decided to leave in connection with his personal future to take on a new management role in his native Austria. I had hoped to see him continue in our management team,” said Dr Karsten Wildberger, CEO of MediaMarktSaturn and CECONOMY. “Then again, we naturally understand Florian Gietl’s desire to do something else after nearly 30 years with MediaMarktSaturn, especially in his home country. We would like to thank him for the dedication and passion with which he has helped shape our company over the past three decades.”
Under Florian Gietl’s leadership, MediaMarktSaturn Germany, by far the company’s largest country organization, has enjoyed very stable development under sometimes tough conditions. Previously, he had already made MediaMarktSaturn Austria one of MediaMarktSaturn’s most profitable national subsidiaries.
Florian Gietl joined MediaMarktSaturn in 1992 and was appointed to the Management Board of MediaMarktSaturn Austria in 2011. He took the helm of MMSD in November 2018, and since October 2020 as COO on the Executive Board of the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group he has also been responsible for Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland.
Dr Karsten Wildberger, CEO of MediaMarktSaturn and CECONOMY, will handle Florian Gietl’s previous duties in addition to his own responsibilities until further notice, making him simultaneously General Managing Director of MediaMarktSaturn Germany.
In connection with the changes at the management board of MMSD, Jörg Bauer, previously Co-COO alongside Florian Gietl, will join the management board, assuming sole responsibility for sales as Managing Director Sales. The other members of the Management Board will remain in their current posts: Daniel Bossert continues as Managing Director Finance, while Sven Degezelle is Managing Director Commercial.
