Family-conscious employer: Media-Saturn once again certified as a family-friendly company within the framework of the berufundfamilie audit

Ingolstadt, 27.6.2013: Family friendliness is a key component of personnel policy at Media-Saturn. Europe's Number One consumer electronics retailer was once again awarded certification by berufundfamilie gGmbH – an initiative of the non-profit Hertie foundation – for its comprehensive commitment to making it easier for employees to reconcile their professional life with their private life. "Reconciling their day-to-day work life with their private life is a huge daily challenge for many employees," says Ralph Spangenberg, CHRO of Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH. "That is why we have been involved in this area for many years. The re-certification confirms that we have taken the right approach." A total of 304 employers received the certificate, which has been awarded for the past 15 years, at a ceremony held 26 June 2013 in Berlin.

Over 2,000 employees at Media-Saturn company headquarters in Ingolstadt are able to take advantage of family-friendly offers. The consumer electronics retailer received certification, awarded within the framework of the berufundfamilie audit, for the first time in 2010. Since then, the company has implemented further measures for promoting family friendliness and now, three years later, was able to be re-certified. Examples include places in a day nursery for employees' own children, support provided to parents on parental leave to make it easier for them to return to work, and a wide variety of information on the topic work and family, supplemented by individual advice services. Media-Saturn also offers flexible working hours and the capacity to work on the move. "With the audit, we have committed ourselves to a systematic process of family-friendly personnel policy," states Thomas Wünnenberg, Managing Director of Media-Saturn Deutschland GmbH. "This is an important investment in ensuring that our colleagues are happy and content."

After the audit is before the audit

Media-Saturn will continue to develop its offerings during the years leading up to its next re-certification. New areas for development and concrete measures that will allow work and family to be reconciled to an even greater extent in the future have therefore already been defined with the help of employees. "Of prime importance to us is that we recognize the needs of our employees in dialog with them and that we are able to provide specific offerings," says Wünnenberg. The agenda includes, for example, expanding the range of offerings involving the topics health, care and assistance, as well as increasing awareness of family-related issues in the management culture.

The audit helps employers achieve a sustainable and economically attractive balance between business objectives and employee interests. It is carried out under the auspices of Federal Minister for Families Dr. Kristina Schröder and Federal Minister of Economics Dr. Philipp Rösler and is recommended by Germany's leading trade associations BDA, BDI, DIHK and ZDH.
